Founded in 1983, the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) now has more than 3,200 members from industry, government, academia and research laboratories, who meet regularly to debate recent technological developments of functional materials. The E-MRS differs from many single-discipline professional societies by encouraging scientists, engineers and research managers to exchange information on an interdisciplinary platform, and by recognizing professional and technical excellence by promoting awards for achievement from student to senior scientist level. The Final Conference of the COST Action TU1208 "Civil engineering applications of Ground Penetrating Radar" is hosted by the National Institute of Telecommunications of Poland (Instytut Łączności), ul. COST Action The Voice of Research Administrators - Building a Network of Administrative Excellence - BESTPRAC organised a dissemination meeting jointly with the European Commission, DG Research & Innovation, Unit B5 Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation. The COST Connect workshop on “Next Generation Internet” was an open space for participants to identify and discuss how they can best contribute and reflect on the current state of the art, and to identify and provide input on desirable developments on the future of the internet.Sometimes technologies are targeted at particular needs or age groups, but often they are generic, addressing many issues and kinds of people. These new technologies create new opportunities and sometimes challenges. The COST Association and the CAPS Community will organise an interactive workshop on the topic of “Connecting Technologies for the Social Good”.The event will take place on 14th and 15th of February 2018 at the COST premises (Avenue Louise 149, 1000 Brussels, Belgium).

Both programmes are important pillars in the promotion of research cooperation in Europe and essential components of the European Research Area (ERA).Three relevant European initiatives have agreed to collaborate and to jointly address some of the key issues in their fields which are of interest to the research and innovation community.
